Year & Era
2023-24 - Modern Era
Card Type
Base Rookie Card
Grade
Raw - Estimated Near Mint (PSA 7-8 range due to visible surface wear and scratching)
Rarity
High print run as a base card, though highly sought after by collectors due to player popularity
Overall Assessment
A popular modern rookie card of a generational talent, hampered primarily by condition issues such as surface scratches that limit its grading potential and market value
Condition Grade
Raw - Estimated Near Mint (PSA 7-8 range due to visible surface wear and scratching)
Centering Assessment
Front appears slightly heavy on the right and top, roughly 55/45 overall
Surface Condition
Fair to Good - noticeable vertical scratching and scuffing across the front surface, typical of raw Topps/Fanatics paper stock without proper protection
Corner Condition
Slight softening visible on top left and bottom corners under closer inspection
Edge Condition
Clean overall edges with minor chipping typical of standard modern paper cards
Print Quality
Standard modern lithographic printing with decent color saturation but prone to surface scratching
Estimated Value
$5 to $15 raw; graded copies depend heavily on exact sub-grades
Comparison to Known Examples
Below average condition compared to freshly pulled copies due to the surface scuffs and minor corner softening
Authentication Tips
Check for official Topps branding, correct card stock thickness, and sharp micro-text on the reverse
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading due to the visible surface scratches which would cap the grade well below a 9
Red Flags
No significant red flags regarding authenticity, but surface wear is prominent
Provenance Notes
Sourced from standard modern retail or hobby packs distributed by Fanatics/Topps
Historical Context
Marks the return of Topps producing basketball cards featuring Wembanyama's rookie likeness outside of official NBA licensing prior to Fanatics' exclusive NBA rights transition
Market Trends
Extremely high demand for Wembanyama rookie cards, though base non-licensed cards fluctuate based on market saturation
Investment Potential
Hold for long-term fan appreciation, though raw copies with surface defects offer limited financial upside for investors
